A Tribute To The Masters Family
As a child growing up in Jacksonville, Florida, I heard the Masters Family singing these great songs many times. The Masters Family, who recorded for Columbia, Decca, and Starday records, consisted of my grandfather, Johnnie, my grandmother, Lucille, and my father, Owen. My father and grandfather have gone on to be with the Lord. They have left behind some great gospel songs that are just as true today as they were when they wrote them. The popularity of the Masters Family occurred during the 1950’s, 60’s, and 70’s. Their musical career centered around Eastern Tennessee and Western North Carolina. However, they traveled extensively throughout the southern states singing and sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone they met. They also had the opportunity to sing many times on the world famous Grand Ole Opry. Grandaddy’s song “Gloryland March” has been recorded by Hank Snow, Pat Boone, the Lewis Family, Wilma Lee & Stoney Cooper, Kitty Wells, and many others. The time has come for me to record and share these songs with a new generation. It is with great love and affection for the original Masters Family that I dedicate this project to them and the Lord they served.
